Leg length discrepancy (LLD) takes place when one leg is longer than the other. This can have an influence on the comfort levels in different parts of our body, including our feet, ankles, knees, hips and back. At Hip2Toe Plus we can assess whether you have a LLD present and design a management program for altering the imbalance and treating any pain associated with it. This includes determining the nature of the discrepancy, which may be structural or possible soft tissue related (functional).

Some of the conditions that may be signs of  a leg length discrepancy can include:

  • Hip pain, including trochanteric bursitis, acetabulum pain and pathology,
  • Iliotibial band syndrome.
  • Groin injuries
  • Lower and upper back pain.
  • Sciatica
  • Piriformis syndrome
  • Knee pain including patella-femoral pain and osteoarthritic conditions.
  • Slumping into one hip or favouring one leg to stand on.
  • Shin splint pain.
  • Achilles tendon pathologies.

Our treatment options may include setting stretches and strengthening programs for weakened or tight regions, changing the leg length with heel raises, or prescribing an orthotic device with a heel raise built into it.

Please contact us at Hip2Toe Plus on (07)40543330 for an appointment if you think you may require assessment for this, or if you wish to seek treatment for a pre-existing leg  LLD. Alternatively, you can visit our contact page at www.hip2toe.com.au to suggest the best time for an appointment, and we will attend your request promptly.

Have a nice day from Dr. Jeremy Hawke (Podiatrist) and the Hip2Toe Plus team.
