Children’s Feet Conditions

Children's Feet Conditions

Children’s Podiatry at Hip2Toe Plus, Cairns Far North Queensland.

The comfort of your children’s feet is very important to allow the necessary activity levels for maintaining a healthy body. Preventing chronic diseases such as heart disease, obesity, type 2 diabetes and depression start from a young age, and comfortable feet are part of this requirement. When children are in pain, they are much more likely to avoid exercise or make excuses for not being involved in many forms of physical activity. It can most certainly change their beliefs about what they are capable of physically. Signs of early heart disease can be displayed in some children, and very often this is in conjunction with sedentary behaviours.

Dr Jeremy Hawke (Podiatrist) has a special interest in treating children’s feet, with 24 years of experience in treating paediatric conditions of the feet, and factors influencing locomotion during gait. Children’s feet are going through many different stages of development and require assessment and examination. Some of the things include children that fall over more often than others, children who appear to be getting more fatigued in the lower limbs when walking, and particularly if they are complaining about pain in the feet, ankles, knees, back or upper body.

We offer services for children including gait analysis to study and analyse the way they are walking, assessments of meeting their developmental milestones, and physical therapy including massage, strengthening programs and advice on shoe wear and activity/exercise programmes.

We offer a range of prescription foot orthotics, which allow us to use the latest 3D laser scanning technology for scanning children’s feet. This allows us to provide world class technology in computer cad cam produced children’s orthotics and 3D printed orthotics where required. This ensures that your child’s feet are placed in the exact corrected position to reduce stress on their developing feet and allow any pain they are experiencing to be kept at a lower level. Very often children with pain in the above-mentioned regions will have a resolution in their pain levels within 4-6 weeks, depending on the condition they are presenting with.
